Mrs. Belote's quilt

So my friend Anne Skinner, who is now Anne Belote got married this summer!  I'm so happy for her.  We met almost 10 years ago when we both started working for BLS.  Anne has since moved on to another career but we have remained friends.  I made this quilt for her and new husband, Thom.  She told me that Thom's favorite color is orange and red and that the house is decorated in those colors.  Anne's favorite color is blue.  So I made one side for the house and the other side for Anne.   This is the first time I have pieced both sides of the quilt.  I hope she enjoys it!

My mess

I spent the last two nights ripping apart five kimonos and getting them ready to cut and sew. What a mess...thread everywhere! But now I have a nice pile of fabric to work with.

This blue scarf is one that I made using bigger panels of a blue print along with a few vintage pieces and lining the back in wool.

a few scarves in the works.  I like the pink one, I think it will look good with the darker slate blue mixed in.
The first four folded in half and picture is of one half
 the folded four's other half
these are scarf #5 on the wall but the sections need to be sewn together

scarves, scarves and more scarves

I was busy sewing all weekend...making scarves for a craft fair that my friend Jen and I are doing.  It took me awhile to rip apart 5 more kimonos and get the foundations all ready.  After that I took off sewing!  The first scarf took awhile but then I got into it and the next four went a lot quicker.  My goal is make at least 20 scarves, more would be better.  Then I'm going to make a few simple pot holders.  Or maybe just a few simpler scarves.  I haven't decided yet.

I DID IT!

I finally created a blog.  I'm calling Sew-Berry because I enjoy sewing and making things and I LOVE berries.   I started sewing in the spring of 2005, just after my daughter was born.  I love fabric and the idea of making things, so my mom encouraged me to sign up for a basic quilting class.  She took care of sweet baby girl while I learned how to make a quilt.  I have been making quilts ever since.

So this blog is the start of my online journey of sharing my projects, learning new skills and seeing what other people are doing and making.
